CNN article and photos on Headstone Symbols
I just saw this photo-article What Do Headstone Symbols Mean? that has some great photographs of headstone symbols. The photos, taken at Greenwood Cemetery in Brooklyn, are informatively captioned and sourced. This is definitely worth a look.
And am I born to die? To lay this body down?
And must my trembling spirit fly
Into a world unknown?
A land of deepest shade,
Unpierced by human thought,
The dreary regions of the dead,
Where all things are forgot. Soon as from earth I go,
What will become of me?
Eternal happiness or woe
Must then my portion be;
Waked by the trumpet's sound,
I from my grave shall rise,
And see the Judge with glory crowned,
And see the flaming skies.
Very helpful - I have always tended to just overlook these various symbols. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteThat's really great. We usually do ignore (intentionally or unintentionally)the core meaning of our life. Great lessons. I remember in my life.
